This summer we visited cool Singapore. Actually Singapore is not cold, it is hot and super hot cause its nearer the equator than the Philippines. But for families with small kids like ours, its a COOL place to visit. Here are 5 reasons:
1. Its a family friendly place to visit- We went to Singapore Zoo, Jurong Birdpark and Night Safari and looked at all those animals in their natural habitat. The kids enjoyed Science in Singapore Discovery Center and Singapore Science Center with the various interactive exhibits. In Sentosa Island, we were a little adventurous and tried the Luge and Skyride , wherein we drove downhill in a mechanical cart and rode uphill strapped on a bench suspended on cables (yikes!). The Chinatown center is an array of colorful houses with shops selling Chinese bric bracs.
2. Public transportation in Singapore is so easy to figure out, even tourist can get around. On arrival, we bought EZ Link cards and took mtr and bus rides for 5 days. We spent .90 Sing cents for each ride thats 32 pesos . If you took the taxi an average ride would cost 12 Sing Dollars, equal to 380 pesos.
3. Singapore foods appeal to Asians. There are Chinese, Malays and Indian cuisine to choose from. Some of the dishes we tried are Hainanese Chicken rice, Char Kway Teow, Laksa, Nasi Lemak and Roti Prata. Char Kway Teow is always a family favorite, its stir fried beef and rice noodles with crunchy beansprouts. I had egg and cheese Roti Prata for breakfast and the curry dip has cardamon and cloves. Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore has very tender slices of boneless chicken in a light sauce.
4. There are Kopi (coffee) and Teh (tea) everywhere and retails for 1.2 Sing Dollars a cup (45 pesos). Kopi O or Teh O gives sugarless black coffee or tea. Kopi C or Teh C is coffee or tea with evaporated milk. Kopi Peng and Teh Peng is cold coffee or cold tea with evaporated and condensed milk. Kopi and Teh are hot coffee or hot tea with condensed and evaporated milk. Teh Tarik is pulled tea with condensed milk
I loved the Teh Peng with its slightly bitter teh and creamy milk.
5. Singapore has got the coolest airport- Changi Airport. Aside for the shops, there are lots more to do in Changi Airport. There is a kids playground, Stencil area- where the kids can try stencils with provided crayons and paper. You can walk around the indoor garden complete with live orchids. And take a picture in the indoor Koi pond. Or go online for 15 minutes in the computers located in the airport waiting areas. No need to sit on the boredom chairs.
be cool this summer . Travel and visit Singapore.
